At the airport we were greeted by my sister who picked us up and took us to her home in South Beach.

1) After freshening up we did a walking tour of the South Beach Art Deco District. 2) In the afternoon we spent many fun hours on beautiful Miami beach swimming and playing volleyball. We tried to build a sand castle but failed miserably ending up with a huge pile of sand. While at the beach we visited the lovely Lummus Park where we enjoyed some refreshing shade. We stayed on the beach until sunset, when we returned home to get ready for dinner.

3) On Saturday we devoted the entire day to a trip to the Everglades National Park where we saw many beautiful birds, dreaded crocodiles and alligators. Though we searched for those elusive pythons, we could not make any sightings. We went on a naturalist guided tram tour hosted by the Everglades National Park rangers. The Everglades National Park is the largest subtropical backcountry area in the US. Over 350 different species of birds have been identified by visitors to this park.

4) Sunday we headed for the Miami Seaquarium where we had the opportunity to view many kinds of aquatic life including sea lions, walruses, dolphins, whales, manatees, giant sea turtles and seals. There were live shows featuring the ocean mammals. They even had a diving opportunity but we didn’t participate in this. This oceanside aquarium occupies 38 acres and is located on Key Biscayne.

5) Sunday night we enjoyed a dramatic performance of Giselle by the Miami Ballet.

It’s hard to believe that we fit some many wonderful activities into three short days. I loved sharing this fabulous trip with my family and look forward to returning again soon.
