CEREC – A Revolution in Dentistry

CEREC is a new on-site fabrication process to allow veneers, crowns and other dental prosthetics to be created and fitted by dentists in London within an hour rather than in the weeks they may normally take to be made.

Any preparation your teeth need to undergo will be exactly the same as usual, you will have the same anaesthetic and the process will be identical, right up to the point where your teeth are fully prepared.  Now, where a mould would normally be taken of your teeth and sent away to a laboratory in which your new crown or inlay would be created, instead a digital image is captured using a specially designed camera, this is fed into a purpose built computer which makes up a three dimensional model of your teeth from which the prosthetic will be created.  Once the practitioner carrying out your dental job judges that everything is correct on the new tooth it is formed from a ceramic block in a custom milling machine at the same location, they can then make any final touches and polishes before it is fired or glazed and put into your mouth just like any other repair.

The ceramic blocks used come in a variety of colours and shades and your dentist will be careful to make sure that the finished product properly fits with your smile (this is to be expected as they should have undertaken several dental courses concerning such treatment) as this might not happen with a crown made by a dental technician in a laboratory who has never seen you or your teeth.

So in one trip and one round of anaesthesia you can achieve the alterations you wanted in much less time without compromising on quality.
